cycle in 因为游行是每年的,这里用了 cycle in。

01 When the Macy’s parade had live elephants
A hundred years ago, the very first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (sometimes then called the “Macy’s Christmas Parade”) featured no balloons, though it did have something even more logistically complicated: elephants from the Central Park Zoo.

The animals featured in the procession included the tigers, bears, camels and donkeys that normally resided at the zoo.

But it seems to have worked! The inaugural parade was such a hit that Macy’s decided to make it an annual tradition.

By 1928, though, the animals were replaced by balloons made by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., which continued to contribute to the effort until 1983, when Macy’s took over the balloon-building.

The balloons had a journey to get to New York City. They were made in Ohio and stored at the Wingfoot Lake Hangar in Akron, which is still the center of operations for the Goodyear blimps and is the oldest airship hangar in the US.

The parade has seen many changes over the years. During World War II, it was suspended, and the deflated balloons provided rubber and helium for the war effort. New characters are always being cycled in (though Snoopy still holds the record for most balloons over time).

It’s a big deal to be added: When Bluey joined in 2022, her creator Joe Brumm got emotional seeing his creation so close to the Peanuts gang, and his wife burst into tears. It took 50 gallons of paint to reproduce Bluey’s signature color.
This year viewers can expect 5,000 volunteers, 17 featured character balloons, 22 floats, 15 heritage and novelty balloons, hundreds of clowns, 11 marching bands, 10 performance groups and even some musical stars. Not bad for an event that started with some zoo animals on leashes walking down a city street.
